FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is speed networking?
Speed networking is similar to speed dating in that you meet many people in a short amount of time and, if you'd like, it is acceptable to exchange business cards. In speed networking, everyone has the same goal:
to meet new people. So there are no odd introductions or goofy pickup lines. Just two professionals sitting down together to discuss their goals
and what they would like to get out of the networking event.
How does it work?
Every participant is required to pre-register online for the event. In most cases, the facility can only hold 50 people, so there is a maximum number of people allowed at each event.
Participants arrive at 6:00 p.m., sign in and get a nametag. The welcome
and orientation begins at 6:15 and the facilitators explain how the
event will run, as well as seating and rotations. When the speed
networking sessions begin, each person will sit down with another and
they will have two and a half minutes to talk about him or herself and what they
hope to gain from speed networking. A bell will ring and the first
person should wrap up their conversation and let the other person talk
for the remaining two and a half minutes. Another bell will ring to signify the
end of that five minute period. The rotations will continue until 8:00 p.m.
or until everyone has gone through a complete rotation.
How much does it cost?
Nothing at all. Speed networking is free. We're working to keep it
that way. So please support the businesses that host our events by
purchasing beverages before or during the event.
How do I register?
Registration is very easy. Just click on "Online
Registration" in the left navigation and choose the event you
wish to attend. Simply complete a few questions and click the
"submit" button. You should then see a confirmation page
that your registration has been received. If you do not get the
confirmation page, you may want to click the "refresh"
button on your browser. You will also receive an e-mail
confirmation.
I did not get a confirmation e-mail. Am I registered?
If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation, first check your
junk/spam mail folder. If you still do not see an e-mail
confirming your registration, send your name and the event you
registered for to info@extremenetworking.org
and we will confirm your registration manually. Please allow 48
hours for a response.
Can I register more than one person?
Due to the limited number of spaces available at each event,
please register only yourself for the event. To ensure accurate
registration information, please have your friends and colleagues
register themselves. We cannot reserve spots for groups however we
do encourage people to bring multiple representatives from their
company or organization to get the maximum benefit of the
networking event.
Can I register for more than one event at a time?
Yes, you can register for as many events as you like. Please
let us know via e-mail (info@extremenetworking.org)
if you need to cancel your registration at any time. We will have
waiting lists for some events, so please be respectful of others
and cancel a minimum of 48 hours in advance so we can give others
the opportunity to attend in your place.
What should I wear?
Dress as casual or as formal as you wish. Some people will be
in suits, some will be business casual, and some will be casual.
It is up to you to make a good first impression.
What should I bring?
Bring plenty of business cards and a pen. You'll need a pen to
take notes on the backs of the business cards you receive. If you
do not have business cards, regular index cards with your name and
contact information work well. It is also a good idea to bring
money to purchase beverages at the event. The local businesses
hosting the events do not charge the Jaycees for using their
space, but it is nice to support them by purchasing food and/or
beverages at the event.
What if I have an emergency and need to leave?
If you need to leave the event, please let one of the
facilitators know. If you need to make a trip to the restroom,
please let one of the facilitators know. He or she will fill your
spot until you return.
Anything else I should know?
Please be respectful and turn cell phones and pagers on vibrate
during the event. Don't dominate your conversations. Be sure to
listen for the bell that signifies that your two and a half
minutes are up. Wrap it up and let the other person speak. It
won't be networking if only one person does all the talking.
Do I need to be a member of the Junior Chamber (Jaycees) to
attend?
No. These events are open to the public and provided as a
service by the Jaycee chapters to allow people a safe,
professional environment in which to network. Jaycee chapters will
have membership information available if you wish to expand your
horizons and learn more about the organization.
Are there membership requirements to join the Jaycees?
There are no residency requirements to join the Jaycees,
however membership is limited to 18-40 year olds and 21-40 year
olds in certain areas.
